Useful Colour Resources

Colour is a very difficult part of design, as it helps set the mood and tone for the content you are designing around. Selecting a colour palette is something that can make or break a layout and even just being a few shades out can turn a great site into something that just doesn’t feel right.

There are many sites out there that help designers get a clearer understanding of colour, create a great palette and make sure that the colours can be used together. Here is my list of useful sites to set you on the right path.

Great Sites and Articles

Colour Scheme Generators

Selecting colours that work well together can be a difficult task, there are so many colour scheme generators that offer different options to a designer. These are just a few of them, but in my opinion are some of the better ones.

Colour Scheme From An Image

Ever seen a photo or images and thought it could make a great colour scheme for a design? Here are some tools that can do just that for you, by uploading an image or directing the site to a url they will generate a colour palette for you based on the colours within the image.

Colour Contrast Checker

Accessibility is important when it comes to web design, one element that should be checked is the contrast between the colours being used. These tools can help you see the contrast between your background and foreground colours and let you know if the contrast will meet the current web accessibility standards.
