Negative Space

Negative space is the space between and around the focal point object. Artists have used negative space to create optical illusions for many years. A great example of negative space is Rubin’s vase; this is an image of a vase that when the viewer concentrates on the space around the main focus might be able to see the silhouette of two men looking at each other.

Designers have also used this technique, creating amazing pieces of graphic art that some may not even have notice. Logos in particular can use negative space quite well, and can give what on first glance looks like a simple logo, a whole new depth and meaning.

    Great collection! :tup: I love negative space logos… when I’m designing logos, I always try for a negative one first!
