10 Horizontal Websites

Creating websites that scroll vertically became a sort of standard for websites when designers first started to look at the web as a platform for design. While on occasion a horizontal scrolling website would appear it didn’t really take off as a trend. This was mainly down to an unspoken rule that you should avoid horizontal scrolling at all costs.

Up until the last few years this rule was pretty much obeyed, however horizontal scrolling sites seem to be becoming quite a trend. While they are still more of an experimental design choice used to create an interesting bold statement, they are becoming a lot more accepted within the right design situation then they were in the past.

Below is an example of 10 great sites that show how this once unaccepted method of navigation can look sleek and interesting, while still easy for a user to find their way around.

I love the Claire Baxter website, it’s amazing. I wish I had skills like that for navigation.

    I <3 navigation.

I have always wanted to try and create a horizontal site, but have never had the opportunity.

I really like the animation on Peter Pearson’s web site
